Remote reading meter – how does it work?

The Remote Reading Meter is an electricity metering and billing device with the function of remote transmission of metering data to a central system.

The principle of a remote reading meter is similar to a traditional electronic meter.

Remote reading meter must meet the requirements set out in the Decree of the Minister of Climate and Environment of March 22, 2022 on the measurement system.

Remote reading meters have a built-in memory in which the measurement data is stored.

The metering data obtained from the remote reading meter is the basis for billing the distribution service and the electricity consumed during the billing period.

Want to find out how remote reading meter works and why the meters are being replaced?

Remote reading meter is a modern tool that:

  • enables remote reading of metering data, remote change of tariff group and change of supplier, without the necessity for PGE Dystrybucja representatives to visit customers,
  • enables bi-directional energy measurement, which eliminates the need to replace the meter in the case of connection of a renewable energy source (RES),
  • transmits information to PGE Dystrybucja on power supply interruptions,
  • ensures remote synchronisation of the meter’s clock, e.g. when changing the tariff group, without the need for a Company representative to visit the customer’s home,
  • provides – at the customer’s request – up-to-date metering data to the customer.
